Blackberry 8700c adalah handset yang pertama dalam jajaran smartphone yang menggunakan prosesor Intel milik Research in Motion (RIM). 8700C tersedia eksklusif pada jaringan Cingular di Amerika Serikat, tetapi varian selanjutnya yang diluncurkan di tahun 2006 disesuaikan dengan jaringan lain yang ada di seluruh dunia.

Terlihat sedikit perbedaan antara seri Blackberry 7100 produk ‘klasik’ Blackberry 7230 dan 7290, yakni lebih stylish. Ada beberapa penambahan yang lumayan banyak, yang menjadikan handset 8700c lebih canggih dan rumit untuk urusan spesifikasi teknis.

Layarnya kini berukuran 320×240 pixel dengan kedalaman 65,000 warna. RIM menyebut teknologi itu sebagai ‘active matrix transmissive technology’, yang lebih mirip seperti layar yang digunakan pada seri 7100 klasik dibandingkan 7200 klasik.

Blackberry 8700c secara spesifik lebih kecil dan lebih ringan dibanding dengan 7230, yakni memiliki berat 136 gram dan berdimensi 110×70x20mm, sehingga para pemakai yang terbiasa dengan model lebih tua tak akan punya masalah yang terlalu berarti. Masa bicara Blackberry adalah 4 jam atau 16 hari standby.

RIM tak terlalu pusing dengan persoalan untuk membuat keyboard Blackberry sesempurna mungkin. Namun mereka telah menambahkan tombol-tombol yang belum ada di handset sebelumnya. Blackberry adalah handset quad-band GSM dengan dukungan GPRS dan EDGE, namun tanpa teknologi 3G. Tak ada kamera yang terintegrasi dengan handset, yang bisa menjadi partner yang sangat cocok bagi para pelaku bisnis. Memori internal hanya berkapasitas 64MB, namun hingga saat ini para pengguna Blackberry tak pernah merasa punya masalah dengan hal itu.

Perangkat lunak 8700 juga telah mempunyai suatu terobosan, termasuk di bidang fungsi-fungsi PIM, web browser (yang bisa ditampilkan dengan ukuran 320 pixel). Karena ini adalah suatu smartphone, banyak aplikasi yang bisa ditambahkan sendiri.

Fasilitas email adalah andalan dari Blackberry dan itu sangat kompatibel dengan kemampuan push sistem email dari RIM dan protokol mail internet standar, yang juga bisa menampilkan beberapa tipe umum attachment. Sebagai pendukung untuk fungsi hiburan, Blackberry 8700 dilengkapi dengan suara polyphonic dan ringtone-ringtone MP3, walaupun tak ada media player di 8700c.

Banyak yang telah ditanamkan dalam Blackberry 8700c, sebagai smartphone pertama berprosesor Intel, namun demikian 312MHz PXA901 (yang dikenal juga sebagai ‘Hermon’) tak akan dijumpai di PC desktop. Sesungguhnya, chipset tersebut adalah varian dari prosesor ARM, seperti yang digunakan dalam beberapa handset Blackberry dan Intel membuatnya secara khusus. Anda tak dapat menjalankan aplikasi-aplikasi program under Windows pada Blackberry 8700.

RIM mengatakan bahwa Blackberry 8700c telah tersedia di Amerika pada jaringan Cingular sejak tanggal 21 November 2005. RIM mengalami banyak kesulitan untuk hak paten di Amerika untuk 8700c. Bagaimanapun varian 8700 yang lainnya harus menjalin ‘ekslusifitas’, seperti Blackberry 8700t untuk T-Mobile, 8100v untuk Vodafone dan lain sebagainya.

BlackBerry 8700c tak dijual seperti Motorola Moto Q atau Nokia E61. Namun handset tersebut dikhususkan bagi para pelaku bisnis yang tak terlalu mempersoalkan keberadaan kamera, MP3 Player dan WiFi.

Responsibilities:
  • Ensure and improve warehouse management; for example FEFO, quality during storage and handling and reduce damaged or missing products.
